Welcome to another spine tingling edition of FOIA Friday kids! Today we have a Foreign Intelligence Information Report from September 1976 detailing the sighting of an “intense source of light” by British European Airways flight number 831 over the USSR.
According to the doc, the occupants of the aircraft spotted a “blinding, single source” of light while cruising at 33 thousand feet. The light was estimated to be between 10 to 15 miles away and was so concerning to the pilot that he actually addressed the plane’s passengers about it over the intercom. He also asked the Soviet authorities for an identification of its source to which they responded with a “negative identification response, suggesting that he should not ask questions.” Yikes!
