In a recent scientific game of “Let’s Just Make Up Some Shit to Talk About” a scientist has declared that space may be littered with trillions of alien probes that are simply too small for NASA to detect.
According to astrophysicist Zaza Osmanov of Georgia’s University of Tbilisi, aliens may be using teeny, tiny robots to explore space. In a paper he actually took the time to write he argues (with whom, I’m not sure) that aliens may send out “Von Neumann probes” – self-replicating robots that would explore space without having to risk the lives of biological aliens. Osmanov asserts that such probes could not only self-replicate, but be nano-scaled and so tiny that we’d never detect them unless they were traveling in a swarm.
Von Neumann couldn’t be reached for comment because he’s been dead for over 60 years, but we think he might have said, “Wait a minute…this guy wrote a paper saying basically exactly what I’ve already said, but tinier and now he’s all over the news?! WTF!”
