I was out on a dead end road south of sherwood park, alberta with my tripod and camera attempting to get a photo of a distant comet. as the comet was too far away to get a picture i proceeded to pack my camera equip away . the evening was cool, crisp and cloudless. there was a thin line of trees 20ft to the south of where my vehicle was parked. beyond that there was a wide open field and another thin treeline which i could see through. above the treeline on the far side i noticed a very bright light stationary just above the trees. my first thought was that it was the edmonton police service helicopter as it is always in the air in the evenings, especially on weekends. i dismissed that thought when the light remained stationary for little more then 5 minutes. as i stood there observing the light it split into two lights. they both remained stationary for a moment or 2 then both lights took off at high rates of speed in opposite directions. one traveling east and the other west. they were both out of sight within seconds.
