My boyfriend and i went out to observe shooting stars from the perseids in boston, ma on august 8th, 2020. visibility was fairly poor due to light pollution, however we were able to see the more prominent constellations as well as a few planets. at approximately 11:20 pm i observed an object out of the corner of my eye. i thought it was a satellite at first because it had no lights, however upon closer inspection i found it to be too large to be a satellite (we checked stellarium later just to be sure). i pointed out the object to my boyfriend and we both observed what appeared to be a large spinning object traveling in a straight line towards the ne. i thought it looked like two spheres orbiting each other, while my boyfriend thought it may get be cylindrical/dumbbell-like in shape. we both agreed that it spun at about one rotation every three seconds and was reflecting light from either the moon or sun (depending on how high up it was, which we were unable to assess). our observation of the object lasted 1-2 minutes before light pollution nearer the horizon made it too difficult to see. we have no explanation for what we saw, as it was unlike anything either of us had ever observed.
