Probably just a meteor. i only report this because i have never seen a meteor described w/ these characteristics on any science or astronomy show. i was about 9 yrs old in 1976, summer, about 9 pm sunset. while playing outside, i happened to look north towards the goodview mn airport. goodview is a suburb of winona mn. i saw a very small, bright white fireball descend at a shallow angle near the horizon. it was not a straight line but had a slight curve downward. it started below the edge of the bluff-line (500 ft.). 1/2 way thru the decent, a bright red and bright blue light split off the larger white object. the red and blue light/object went almost straight down at about an 80 degree angle. the entire episode last about 1 second. i did not see these objects hit the ground. they just faded out. i have read hundreds of "bright light" ufo reports. none matches this except one of the wiinona mn ufo reports about a white light emitting other colored lights. i was a skywatcher as a child and had seen thousands of meteors during meteor showers. i never saw anything like this before or since. all 3 lights had a short tail that faded out in less than 1 second. i will never forget the blue and red colors. as perfect a blue and red as i have ever seen.
