I was a lead station attendant working for air canada at the edmonton international airport. my crew and another crew assigned to the midnight shift were loading the overnight flight to toronto. a member of the crew pointed to the sky and said what the heck is that? i looked up to see a triangle shaped set of lights flying south to north across the runways and heading towards the airport terminal. the object was moving at a steady but slow pace. it flew directly over us and the airport. the lights were so bright that one could not make out the surface features. at the same time this was happening an air canada dc9 was flying touch and go landings in order to train a new pilot. the pilot in training and the trainer pilot landed and came to the terminal immediately after the unidentified flying object passed by. i waved in the flight and put the bridge up to the dc9. as soon as i opened the door of the aircraft the trainer asked me if i saw what he saw. he believed it to be a squadron of objects flying in formation but they did not appear on the aircraft radar. i radioed the control tower and asked them what it was and they said they had no idea. i asked if they picked it up on radar and they said it did not appear on radar. the edmonton radar facility covers from the alberta/montana border all the way to the north pole and is apart of norad. the pilots refused to report the incident officially because the were afraid of being grounded.
