As we traveled home from dinner traveling South on Rt. 49 in Chesterton, IN I looked out the rear passenger window to the East at 9pm CST. Four dull-orange colored orbs were approximately 30 degrees above the horizon and aligned in a staggered row. The orbs did not move and I did not sense any type of communication or contact emanating from the orbs. The orbs were not blinking and were not lights emanating from towers. The lights were larger than stars and did not have any blinking lights associated with them. I did not see any other craft in the area (helicopters, etc.) but did see several other planes as we continued to travel down Rt. 49. Since I was a passenger in the car, I was able to get a sustained look at the orbs (approximately 3 minutes long). Their formation, lack of motion, dull orange color, and lack of additional lights allowed me to confirm that these were not conventional aircraft. I could not ascertain the size of the orbs, but they were very noticeable in the night sky. One-by-one, the lights disappeared from left to right. They did not "blink" out, but rather seemed to dissipate slowly and simply fade away over the course of about 10 seconds per orb. While I did not sense any form of communication, there appeared to be intelligent control behind the craft with what appeared to be an intent to be observed or seen by individuals traveling this stretch of highway.
