LasVegasNOW.com, the web presence for Las Vegas Channel 8 CBS affiliate, reports that the United States Air Force has taken away privately owned land from it’s owners. The land overlooks the infamous, heavily secured Area 51 military complex and had been privately owned by the same family since the late 1800’s. The family had previously been offered a $5.2 million dollar buy out deal, but turned down the offer citing that the land was worth far more than that. After the family refused a second offer from the USAF of $5 million the USAF pursued a condemnation case which ultimately resulted in the land being handed over to the United States and valued at only $1.5 million. The family has, as of yet, received no compensation of any kind.
