  1. Loved the “1980″ car designs–too bad 28 years after that they still look like M&M’s with wheels and headlights.

    Thanks, wind-tunnel tests. :P

  3. Geryy always copied the American Space programme, and they (NASA) have an acronym for everything, Just watch 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY.

  6. What was Gerry Anderson’s fetish with ackronyms? I mean he had an ackronym for everything in like all of his shows. In reality, people dont use them that much, preferring to use shorter names or nicknames. For ex, the Hubble Space Telescope isn’t called “HST”, it’s just known as “the Hubble”, etc. (I dug his “WASP” ackronym in the tv show Stingray, I believe it was for “World Aquatic Security Police” or something close to that). LOL

  10. Loved that show to bits back in the 70s I think it was shown from 1971 until 1974 on UK TV and it used to be on late Saturday afternoons or early evening.

  15. Three Moonbase Interceptors. One missile each.

I was always a bit concerned that the aliens might send 4 UFOs against moonbase and Lt Ellis would have to turn to Paul Foster, raise her eyebrows and state “Well, we’re screwed now”

  16. I think it ran 2 seasons. The production values were extreamly high for a SF show in the 60’s… I have the DVD box set and the quality is quite astounding considering the age.

And as for the purple wigs Sylvia Anderson apparently figured that in the future wigs may well become part of uniform… along with miniskirts… I guess. Hmmm. Gave me another reason to watch it though.

  19. I agree probably the best thing about that intro was the chicks (or ‘birds’ in british english lol). I remember the 70’s and yes I watched SP1999 and the avengers but dont remember this show. How long was it on, like 1/2 a season?

  20. ok check out the series of related videos and memory links that led to me regaining a memory of this show as a really small kid – I create a video for a food movie Big Night -> scene from Five Easy Pieces (Jack Nicholson & Karen Black) -> I get curious about Karen Black and check IMDB -> IMDB has a clip from movie Capricorn One which shows the ITC Logo -> which prompts a memory of this show UFO which I must have watched when I was like FOUR years old – the magic of the internet boys n girls

  21. YEAH!!That brings back memories! I was a kid and remember that show! It was popular in the US along with Space 1999 and the Avengers. This show was made in the late 60s..so 1980 was the future. and those BRITISH BIRDS were hot!! That’s what they were called back then.

  23. My God that has to be the most campy show I have ever seen. Was it ever aired outside england? If it was from the 70’s how did they think the technology would advance so much by only 1980? And whats up with that purple hair?
