Ahh, but remember that the closest star system (Alpha Centauri) is 4.3 light years away. And it’s almost guaranteed to be uninhabited due to statistical proximity. So it would probably be unmonitored.
You have to consider lightyears and the probable scarcity of space faring intelligent life. Even the strongest radio signals can only travel so fast.
remember, I don’t believe with any degree of certitude.
I like to regard the phenomenon as more of a thought experiment, most of the time.

If there were aliens, they would have known about us since the first spark gap transmissions (wireless telegraphy), late 1800s.
Human scientists can tell if transmissions are random or intelligent, certainly the aliens could, if they exist.

The only reason to kill us all is to take our planets resources, so why wait 50 years or longer as we slowly consume and ruin the planet? They’re watching us, like you might watch an ant farm. out of curiosity.
And they’re waiting for us to either destroy ourselves, save ourselves(from ourselves) , convince them that we need to be destroyed or convince them that we are worthy of contact.
But, this all depends of course, on whether they exist or not.
