My father saw this object first. it was early night in1983. my father was driving. myself in the passenger seat, and my brother at the back seat. i was 14yrs old, my brother 7yrs. my father said that the moon was looking strange. i looked and it was orange-red. my father turned left at nigel high school, just after observing the moon. it was not the road that we usually took. we usually took the next road. i was not sure if it was the moon, and were looking around in the sky. this object was in a se direction and i saw the moon looking leff out of my passenger window. this was south africa and thus, i was sitting on the left side. i told my father that the moon was on my side, west of our vehicle. he looked and saw it. realizing that the object was something else, all three of us looked at it. at that exact moment it started to move toward us. it slowly changed shape, looking like a flaming bird. it was not as high as we thought. also not as big. i quess it's size about 8 times the size of the vehicle. hight was about 20 meters in the sky. it flew right over us, as if it were showing off. we followed it for about 3 kilometers. it was going slightly faster than we were. after this distance it was further away from us, but clearly visible. we came to a shop at the corner where people were standing outside looking at it too. it was now a white dot, much higher in the sky and much farther away from us. ne in direction. it then shot up in the sky, in a blink af an eye it was gone. this whole episode happened in about 8 minutes.
