drving east along hwy 264 from washington towards hyde county (nc). around 5:40pm, i (wife/passenger), noticed a bright, white light to my right. would have been direction se or s... the sun had just set in the west and i assumed the light was sirus (bright star in canis major constellation).
then i noticed how low it was, and that it was illuminating the cloud. i started freaking out, asked my husband, who was driving, what phase the moon was in, thinking maybe, somehow, it was the moon.
new moon is tomorrow, btw.
then i saw a smaller, rosy/reddish light break apart from the white light and they began to separate.
i started freaking out louder, my poor husband had no idea what was going on and couldn't see anything.
then the lights, together, flew over 264 and were right in front of the car, high up and began.... dancing? about with other yellow/golden-y lights.
at first we saw three, making the classic triangle shape, but this soon melted away as the three lights began dancing and weaving about, fainter lights of the same colour appeared and there was one, bright yellow/white light to the right.
at this point, we pulled over so we could get a better look. my husband had only got a chance to see snippets and was astounded at the display. he parked up on the side of the road, it was now very dark and i got out of the car, ready to film them but then they suddenly faded away and never returned.
i did manage to get two photos, not great quality but best i could considering we were in a moving car for the event and i had zoomed in.
was hesitant about posting, but then i saw two other accounts from our state tonight and thought 'what the heck.'
