I am a retired air traffic controller of 18 years in the air force and 20 years in the faa. during that time i was involved in numerous ufo incidents involving reports by civilians and pilot reports. the one in new mexico involved a woman calling the radar approach control on a sunday saying there was hovering behind their house in tulerosa. i referred her to the base information office. a while later one of the wing commanders showed up at the rapcon wanting to know if we had anything on our radar (which we didn’t). at that point the same woman called again and i handed the phone to the colonel and let her talk to him. at the same time another officer showed up wanting to know if we were seeing anything because the command post was getting reports and the control tower was seeing something. one of the officers was asked to send up a helicopter to the sight, but i was told that the helicopter pilot didn’t want to go without security police and a photographer. during this time the second officer had gone outside with a couple of the controller on my crew to try to see anything. he came hurrying into the control room saying they had seen it speed off to the south. i never saw anything on our radar and that was pretty much where it ended. the following day the local police said it had been a bucket tethered under a balloon with something burning inside, with a picture of a perfect burned circle on the ground, which i thought odd in the desert scrub to be so perfectly a circle. over the years i have been involved in several reports by military police and pilots.
