I was outside looking for meteors during the taurid meteor time frame, 11/12/2017 at about 00:05. i saw a set dim lights in a triangle formation just above the horizon to the nw. it passed directly overhead. i lost sight of it as it entered the city light glow just above the horizon to the sw.
the lights were equidistant apart, essentially in the configuration of a equilateral triangle. the object caught my attention as i initially saw it, thinking it was an owl. i immediately realized it was not an owl because of the 3 equidistant lights.
i thought for a moment that maybe 3 meteors were together. however, the lights stayed equidistant apart, traveled together in a straight path and had no trail behind them. the lights also stayed consistent in illumination, neither flaring or dimming as they moved. the stars above it were blocked as it passed over head indicating the area between the lights was a solid object.
the object moved across the sky in less than 1.5 seconds. it was completely silent.
i often see aircraft overhead, small planes, airliners, f-16s, a-10s, etc. i have seen never anything travel across the sky that fast.
i have never seen anything like this is the past. i am a non-drinker, was sober and awake and have over 34 years of law enforcement experience.
the sighting was too quick for photos or videos.
