I was grilling outside and out of the corner of my eye i saw an unusual white light in the sky. at first i thought it was just landing lights of a jet. we live near craig field, it's general aviation only, we see nothing bigger than a gulfstream. i was once a pilot so i know what they look like in all types of configurations. after a few seconds i realized it was no jet. i walked out on the back yard to get away from the house lights and watched it. the path was not consistent. it seemed to hover and move. it turned to a super bright orange color and gained intensity over the time of the siting, about 2 mins. at the end it faded out over 2 or 3 seconds. it did not cut off, it faded. i waited for about 5 minutes listening for an engine sound. it's path was almost directly over my head so i would have heard something. there was no sound or any other light. when jets switch off their takeoff lights they leave on the navigation lights. this was nothing like i've seen before. when it comes to flying i'm a bit better witness than your average joe. the path was a gradual se to nw. my guess is 3500 feet, size 30' to 60'.
