On July 11, 2013, I was living in a small village called Afterlee in the NSW Northern Rivers, approximately 80 kilometres west of the Gold Coast, Australia. A little before 6pm, I went outside to photograph clouds, a common occurrence for me, as I was a member of a cloud photography group on Facebook. Just a shade before 6pm, looking to the horizon to the NW, I spotted a distant cylindrical shaped object that appeared be to be tumbling upwards. I thought at first it may be a satellite, but every satellite I've seen has moved in a straight line. The course of this object was erratic. The object appeared to the eye as a glinting silver object, but close ups of subsequent photographs revealed a red streak in the centre of the object. It was first spotted around 20 degrees above the horizon, and as I snapped my pictures, it moved upwards in a distinctive, end over end tumbling motion to about 40 degrees or so before I lost sight of it. It just seemed to disappear. At first I was simply puzzled, but really had no time for any emotive reaction. I just zoomed, focused and snapped. The camera, a Canon 1100D was set for continuous, so I just kept the button down and held the camera as steady as possible while looking through the viewfinder. When I processed the images to my computer, I was pretty sure that I'd caught something unusual. After a total of approximately 30 to 35 seconds, the craft simply vanished.
