I was smoking a pipe in my back yard at about 12:10 AM and suddenly, there was a flash in the sky that resembled a star, but the brightness intensified very briefly, then vanished, hardly moving from it's original location. This happened twice and two minutes apart. Not sure if it was the same object, but each did the same thing, flash and vanish, moving little (but they did move). They definitely were not shooting stars because these "stars" were almost stationary, they only appeared and disappeared, they did not shoot. The second one was to the lower right of the first one, about a foot apart in my line of sight. There were no searchlights or aircraft around, just a starry, calm night, next to the Big Dipper. I doubt they were satellites because I can usually observe those for awhile and there were two occurrences. Neither moved like a satellite and they were much brighter. My reaction : "what was that?", just like anyone would react. I had a camcorder available, but these objects were too far away in the dark sky to be seen through a lens. Plus, they only lasted about two seconds each (four seconds total). I would like to know if anyone else has seen objects like these.
