I was stationed at Key West Naval Base from 1953-56. We were docked on a Saturday. At 11 a.m., I stood on the deck of my ship, off-duty, with other seamen. We heard sirens: the base went on Red Alert! I looked up and saw, at 10 o'clock in a clear blue sky, 6 or 7 saucer-shaped objects. Everybody saw them. They were grayish silver. They moved slowly in perfect unison, making abrupt 90 degree turns to the left and upwards. I felt excited! Six or seven fighter jets from the nearby Boca Chica Air Station were scrambled and flew in pursuit. When the planes got near, the objects quickly darted off diagonally to the left and disappeared in a cloud! There was nothing published about it that I know of. The incident seemed to be hushed up, even though the whole base had seen the objects.
