UFO Sighting in Lowell, Massachusetts on November 17th 1978 – 100′ disc shaped UFO came up the the edge of highway and hovered for a few minutes and hovered away.

I was traveling west on I-495 outside of Lawrence, Mass.on Nov. 17, 1978. The sun had just set but the sky was still light. I looked to the south and saw what looked like a bright florescent tube floating across the sky. It appeared to be heading closer to the highway I was on. We both converged on the highway at the same time. This 100' gray UFO came to a stop at the edge of the highway at tree top level and just sat there for a couple minutes. I was not the only one there. I-495 is a major highway and there were hundreds of people that just stopped their cars in the highway, got out of their cars, and just starred at this amazing spacecraft. A Mass. State Trooper pulled up with his lights flashing and was parked about 10 cars behind me. I know he saw it because it seemed to fill the sky. After a few minutes it just headed back toward Boston very slowly. I received a pilots license at 16 and was a helicopter pilot in the Army so I know a little about aircraft and this craft was not from this planet. The only unusual thing that I noticed was that air had static electrical charge of some sort to it. After it left, I also left, a changed man. Thank you. Rich
