My son and I were outside watching fireworks when we saw about 7 orbs of light coming from the north east. The first few traveled from the northeast in a straight line to the southwest. They appeared to be very high in the sky. However, the later orbs began on this trajectory, but made sharp angle changes in motion to the north (in one case) and towards the east in others. One actually double back on its original path. Initially believed that they might be Chinese lanterns given the holiday but the great height at which they apppeared made this seem less likely. The changes in motion observed, which appeared to be self-directed (no wind was evident, and the directional changes were inconsistent with one another) also make this hypothesis problematic.
