UFO Sighting in California on June 30th 2015 – I was viewing the northern sky and saw an orange star or planet.

I was returning home in Rancho Cucamonga California on 06/30/2015 at 2300 PST. I stepped out of my automobile and looked northward and observed what appeared to be a bright orange star or planet approximately 40 degrees above the horizon. It was not moving and I had enough time to set up a small telescope I have in my garage. However, by the time that I had a proper alignment, the object loss intensity and faded in color. My last observation of it was a descending motion of one or two degrees, then it vanished away. I think what I saw was a flare, but It must have been at a very high altitude. Strangest thing I've seen around here.
