UFO Sighting in Putney, Georgia on May 26th 1996 – pulsating lights following river n to s, hovered then moved west close observation

Albany airport closed to traffic until 0800 each day, no heliport at Marine base, sighting 0530.. Observed north of chem. plant, lower than pecan trees and appeared to be size of small aircraft. two very bright white lights appeared to be 25 -30 feet or so apart, four smaller lights in between pulsating singly in random pattern. I parked south of plant, only one there, watched as lights slowly moved south (estimated 1/2 mile) to stop in line with my position as I looked west. Time to move from North to South of plant approx. 1-2 minutes, stationary on south side of plant 5-10 minutes. Lights reflected on trees, lights were behind trees but few leaves yet on trees. I watched as lights either 1. moved directly away from me at slow speed until falling to pinpoint and gone or 2. slowly decreased in size without moving until gone. At no time was I aware of movement away, and lights were slightly above and behind a prominent tree limb for reference. Bright white lights reflected on trees and ground but did not have glare to my observation. After it had moved south and then stopped I suddenly had the thought that "OMG it is watching ME!" Very unnerving. After that thought is when it diminished in size or left. No noise ever, very stable flight, nothing erratic. Flint river approx. 1/4 mile west of plant, I felt like lights were over and following river, that would allow for being behind trees and not over. I was part of construction management team, ex military (field grade Army-Infantry) and have had other observations before and after, this was the most visual.
