UFO Sighting in El Paso, New Mexico on September 8th 1989 – Extremely bright light then a supersonic departure SE then West

I was traveling south on Hwy 54 from Almagordo NM to El Paso Tx and about 10-12 miles from El Paso ( I was in the desert and could see the lights of El Paso beyond the mountain range in front of me) a bright beam of high intensity white light surrounded my vehicle about 20 ft. In circumference all the way around my vehicle and was staying with me at approximately 70 MPH for about 1/4 of a mile and lit up me and everything around me like it was daylight and then shut off. I thought it may have been a Border Patrol helicopter but the light was nothing I had ever seen before. When the light went off I stomped on the brakes of my vehicle and jumped out of the car ( I was in total darkness in the desert with absolutely no other traffic at all) and watched the craft head SE about 6-7 miles toward a mountain range and the it made a sudden turn west and went behind a mountain range and out of my sight in a matter of 2-3 seconds. At the time I was in the Florida National Guard in training at Ft. Bliss in ElPaso Tx. as a 24L Missle Systems Operator / Repairer and was visiting a boyhood friend who's ex wife was stationed in the Air Force and he lived in Alamogordo NM. As soon as I got back to my unit I got on a pay phone and called my wife in Florida and then called a very close friend that lived in St.Louis Mo. and told them both of my experience at around 9:30 to 9:50 and they both thought I was crazy and making it up but after talking with both of them about my experience at great length they both knew that I wasn't lying about my encounter and I never reported it to the military because that is what I was in training for, identifying aircraft on a radar screen and using IFF ( identifyier friend or foe) and this craft was NOT a civilian or military craft at the speeds it was traveling and I was not going to make a report to them.(the military)
