UFO Sighting in Mastic Beach, New York on August 11th 1976 – Saw red orb come down stop make quick W movement and zip away back where it came from.

On August 11, 1976 I was 16 and living with my parents in Suffolk County, New York. Hurricane Belle had ripped thru the area only days earlier knocking out electricity in the area. It was a hot August evening and humid. I was having trouble sleeping due to the weather and decided to go outside and lay on the ground in hopes of falling asleep. While laying on the ground looking towards the night sky I saw a red orb come zipping out of the Southeast and stop dead in the air right in front of me about 20 feet off the ground. It then executed a series of up and down movements in the shape of a W. It stayed motionless for a moment before starting the W and after finishing the W. It zipped off in the direction from where it first appeared. This orb was about the size of a Volkswagen Beetle and was near enough to hit with a stone had I tried. I had no idea what this object was or might be and was left bewildered. I'd never seen anything like it before or since. I did not connect this event as a UFO sighting until 10 years later while watching a television show about UFO sightings which included a red orb operating as a probe for the flying saucer. The rendition of the orb matched exactly what I'd seen that night in August 1976.
