UFO Sighting in California on June 15th 2015 – Bright orange-red light not in aerial path which ascended from the West then slowly changed paths going NW, hovered then became smaller and disappeared/disintegrated.

My partner and I were talking in our car in our driveway (without our cellphones or camera) when a bright light appearing above the trees facing west caught our attention. It was out of any aerial path and aside from that had a bright orange and red 'light' which is unusual for helicopters in our area. We both agreed it was not a helicopter. It became more apparent it was not a helicopter when it continued its ascent and proceeded to head east. It then turned toward the north where we could see it was only a bright orange-red light, no other 'parts'. It continued only about several hundred feet when it got smaller and smaller and seemed to disappear or disintegrate with no sound or parts exploding. Could it have been a type of firework (now that I'm thinking of it)? It would be unlike any firework I've seen as this was big, bright, moved slowly with no culmination.
