The minds over at SETI – the installation that’s been scanning the skies for decades listening for alien chatter and has really found nothing – is suggesting they need to change their game a bit. Essentially, instead of just listening for aliens, they want to reach out to them. Perhaps the reason SETI hasn’t captured anything yet is because they haven’t been asking for something to capture, the idea goes.
Some folks aren’t too keen on the idea. Folks like Neil deGrasse Tyson, for one. His stance is that we don’t willing give out our home addresses to random strangers on the street so why in the world would we broadcast our galactic address to who knows what sort of hyper advanced critters might be out there? Personally, as much as I’d love to make contact, he does have a good point.
